Do we have to be from Mandan to join the club?

Yes. The whole purpose of this club is to provide opportunities for Mandan kids to play and develop at basketball. Any exceptions would need to come to the board for approval.

 

How do I get my kid on a travel team?

Travel teams are parent formed and led. Most teams are formed by a group of parents asking around with friends. Parents decide who to have on their team. The MBBC does not determine who is on which team. We simply support that team. However, if you have not been able to get your child on a team, you can email the club at mandanbbc@gmail.com. We keep a running list of kids wanting to be on a team. Then if we get several kids in a grade level, we will connect those parents together to try and form a team.

 

Is it ever too late to start a traveling team?

No! Most travel tournaments start at 2nd or 3rd grade and then have them up to 8th grade. You can start a team at any of those ages!

 

What does the club do for my child if I register?

The club has many benefits for youth, but here are several.

• Reimbursing club teams for tournaments

• Reimburse some of camp fees over the summer

• Gift from the club every year

 

What is required from the parent/child to be in the club?

We fundraise throughout the season to provide the funds to be able to run this club. Although minimal compared to other clubs, there are requirements to help at certain times throughout the year. This is part of being in the club. We don’t have any paid positions in this club, all of us are volunteers. These items to help are:

• Working shifts at our travel tournaments (1 in December and 1 in March) – this is required. Yes, we work hard to not have you miss any of your child’s games.

• Selling tickets for our cash raffle. We usually do this in February.

• Your travel team will work at least 1 game for the 50/50 raffle. This is when the boys walk around and sell raffle tickets during home games.

• 1 parent to come to monthly meetings (dates posted on our website). We prefer this to not be a coach, to have someone else get involved!

• Some help is required for the BNC Class A/B Holiday Tournament over the Christmas Break.

 

How does practice time work?

Most teams practice at elementary schools around Mandan. Each principal of each school determines the gym schedule for each school. You can simply call the schools and ask for gym time. Most travel teams practice twice a week but that’s up to you.

• The Mandan Middle School has a running list throughout the year that they offer gym time as well. If you call the school, they will get your email address and then email you throughout the year for available gym time.

How do travel tournaments work?

This is up to your individual teams as far as which tournaments you are wanting to register for. There are many local tournaments to play if you don’t want to travel, but many teams go to Dickinson, Jamestown, Minot, Rapid City, etc…

• You can find tournaments to register on the “Tourney Machine” app. Most tournaments use this, so a good app to have.

• There are also several Facebook groups that post local tournaments. One we use is “North Dakota and South Dakota Travel Basketball”

• Between the girls and boys club, we have a Mandan tournament in November, December, January, February, and March.

· NOTE *** - 7th and 8th grade boys who play school ball, you aren’t allowed to play travel basketball during that timeframe. This usually starts in January and completes towards the end of February.

What do we do for jerseys and team names?

· The Club does not supply jerseys or team names. Most teams try and find a sponsor and then order jerseys. Team names and colors are also up to the team, just need to be appropriate and represent Mandan well.

How do we register for the club individually and team?

· As an individual, you just register on this website under “MBBC Club Registration”. You can register all your family members on one registration.

· Once you have your team formed, you can register your team under “MBBC Team Registration”.

 

What does the club expect from parents and coaches?

​This club is designed to represent Mandan. Coaches and parents are to present themselves professionally and respectfully. If the club is reported to have a parent, coach, or player is not conducting themselves how we expect as a club, someone from the board will address that with the individual. If it happens again after we address it, that member or members can be removed from the club. In that case the member will no longer receive benefits from the club.
